STATEMENT – GPS Association 2021 Term 2 Premiers & Term 3 COVID Planning
The Great Public Schools Association Office is pleased to announce the Term 2, 2021 Premierships. After a rearranged 2020 calendar, the Association returned Cross Country, Football and Tennis to a quieter term 2 where three (3) schools celebrated victory.
Amongst the celebrations were back-to-back Jack E. Ross Trophy winners for the Brisbane State High Schools’ Cross Country Team. A return after six years for Brisbane Grammar School as Tennis premiers. And first-time Football premiers St Joseph College Gregory Terrace in an undefeated season.
Congratulations to all nine (9) member schools continuing to succeed on and off the playing arenas. Leadership from coaches, teachers, staff, school administration, and peers create and nurture the great competitions seen throughout the GPS Association. Demonstrated at the Cross Country Championships, with multiple schools succeeding as age champions; students supporting and pushing each other to post personal best times and the Ipswich Grammar School students helping every runner from the nine (9) member schools they cross the finish line. A great reminder that the GPS spirit of fellowship continues throughout the Association.
Commencing Friday, 17 July, Chess will kick start the GPS term 3 Sport and Activities, joined by Basketball and Rugby. Anglican Church Grammar School will be aiming for back to back Chess premierships and a three-peat in Basketball. At the same time, Brisbane Boys College will defend their first-ever stand-alone premiership in Rugby.
The GPS Association has continued to adjust in line with QLD Health the restrictions relating to the global health pandemic (COVID-19). Term 3 will see the abandoning of Sport Industry Plans by the QLD Government and the more generic Business Directive and Check-list for Restricted Businesses. This includes the required legislation for indoor venues to use the QLD Government contact tracing app and Indoor facilities person density of 3 persons per 4m2. The GPS will work with member schools to ensure GPS Sport and Activities are in line with legislation and update our communities as needed.
The Association congratulates the achievement of term 2 premiers and extends best wishes to the nine (9) member schools for Term 3 Sport and Activities.
