GPS Centenary Cross Country Championships

A misty morning at Limestone Park in Ipswich gave way to a clear, sunny day for the GPS Centenary Cross Country Championships on May 30th.

330 athletes took part in the 10 Years and Under to 12 Years and Under GPS Centenary Junior Championships with strong individual performances showing huge courage and determination to finish the challenging course. Nudgee College emerged victorious in the Junior Championships with Churchie in second, and Gregory Terrace in third.

An unseasonably warm afternoon presented an extra challenge for the 780 Senior Athletes who took part in the 48th Annual GPS Cross Country Championships for 13 Years and Under – Open. Some epic individual performances were seen from runners across the schools giving spectators real demonstrations of courage and grit.

Brisbane Boys’ College in first place overall, were named 2018 winners of The Jack E, Ross Memorial Trophy to great applause from spectators and support teams.  Brisbane Grammar School came in second and The Southport School took third position.

GPS 100 banners along the start and finish gave the course a real Centenary flavour, and the winners were presented with their awards in front of the GPS media wall providing some great photo opportunities.
