OVERALL CROSS COUNTRY RESULTS


The season consists of 6 lead up meets at various venues and culminates in the annual Championships event. Runners from Years 5-12 compete in Age groups/ divisions for the Senior competition (13 Years & Under to Open) and  Junior GPS (10 Years & Under to 12 Years & Under) over distances from 2km – 6km.

OVERVIEW

1971    
GPS Cross Country competition commenced, i naugural year of competition  Championships venue – University of Queensland.  Church of England Grammar School* win their first Championships.
Events - U15 and Open - 5km
Original Scoring System – 1st -15 pts, 2nd 11pts, 3rd 8 pts, 4th 6 pts, 5th 5 pts, 6th 4 pts, 7th 3 pts, 8th 2 pts, 9th 1 pt.
1972
Events - U14 and U15 & Open  - 3km and 5km
1973
Events - U14 and U16 & Open  - 3km and 5km
1974
Brisbane Grammar win their first Championship
1977
New Scoring System introduced– 1st -10 pts, 2nd 8pts, 3rd 7 pts, 4th 6 pts, 5th 5 pts, 6th 4 pts, 7th 3 pts, 8th 2 pts, 9th 1 pt.
1989
Championships venue moved to Brassall, Ipswich
1990
The Southport School wins their first Championship
1991
Ipswich Grammar School wins their first Championship
1992
Championships venue moved to Nudgee College
1993
Championships venue moved to Limestone Park, Ipswich [venue to present day]
1999
St Joseph’s Nudgee College wins their first Championship
2001
St Joseph’s Gregory Terrace wins their first Championship
2014
Competition extended from Year 8 to commence from Year 5-12  Anglican Church Grammar School is the first school to win the inaugural GPS Championships event for Year 5-7 
2015
St Joseph’s Nudgee College is the first school to win the double – Junior GPS and Senior Championships
2018
Brisbane Boys’ College wins their first Senior Championship
2020
Junior Championship name change to Junior Carnival
