STATEMENT – 2021 GPS Association Track and Field Championship

The Great Public Schools Association of Queensland today announces that the 2021 edition of our flagship Track and Field Championships will be rescheduled to October 12, 2021.

Changes to the gazetted Brisbane Show Holiday (EKKA) to Friday 29 October, resulted in the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) amending the commencement of year 12 External exam period to Friday 22 October, clashing with GPS Track and Field Championships.  The GPS Association has decided that rescheduling the Championship is the only responsible course of action.

While it is difficult to reschedule a Championship event, the GPS wanted the Championship to still go ahead.  Rescheduling is not always going to suit each individual; however, we continue to make decisions in the best interests of the vast majority of those involved. We wish to thank all GPS Member Schools for their support during 2021 and for adapting to unforeseen changes.

The Championships will go ahead at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre, combining the Junior and Senior events on a single day.  While the Championship schedule is yet to be finalised, it is anticipated the Juniors (U10-U13) will commence at 8am, concluding with relays at noon; and the Senior Championships (13years old – Open) will be an afternoon-twilight event starting at 1.30pm and finishing with relays at 8pm.

The GPS is pleased to continue our live streaming support of Flagship GPS Sport and Activities, with the Senior Championships streamed on Cluch.tv from 1.30pm on Tuesday 12 October.

The GPS Association will continue to monitor the COVID-19 Health pandemic and implement safety measures in line with the QLD Government and Stadiums QLD COVIDSafe Plan.  We will continue to work with all schools regarding the QLD Government road map and compliance with the QLD Government COVIDSafe Checklists.

The GPS Association wishes all nine (9) Member Schools good luck for the remainder of term 3 Sport and Activities and the term 4 Track and Field Championships where Ipswich Grammar School will defend their title.
