With over 4,200 students taking part in the 2019 GPS Rugby Premiership Season, participation and engagement in the sport this year was exceptional. The season saw some incredible matches in all age groups, many of which drew huge crowds of passionate supporters.
After a thrilling 29-29 point draw with a talented Ipswich Grammar School 1st XV side, The Southport School’s XV sealed their 2019 Premiership victory.
Mike Wallace, TSS’s Head Rugby Coach summed up feeling at the school, “We are extremely proud of our boys. They are a team that has worked hard together and bonded across wins and losses through the younger age groups. For a group of young men, the majority of which have been at TSS since before Year 6, they are resilient, determined, disciplined and reflect the core values of TSS with humility and have lead the school with distinction.”
Brisbane Boys’ College took second place with St Joseph’s Nudgee College coming in third.
Players from all nine GPS Member Schools were commended for their good sportsmanship on and off the pitch.
